OpenVPN Installation woes – Fix

I am configuring openvpn for a local test server so my partner in another state can access it securely. The installation did not start out well with
vars: line 29: /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/2.0/whichopensslcnf: Permission denied
NOTE: If you run ./clean-all, I will be doing a rm -rf on /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/2.0/keys

Several chmod commands later.. finally chmod +x * did the trick. Alas openvpn still did not like me,

**************************************************************
No /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/2.0/openssl.cnf file could be found
Further invocations will fail
**************************************************************
an ls in the directory revealed 3 different openssl-version.cnf so I ran openssl version to find I had 1.0.0 so I renamed the openssl-1.0.0.cnf to openssl.cnf and I am now making progress!
